Rendered in ghostly monochrome, a horse and rider dissolve into a haze of purple-grey mark-making, faces of onlookers emerging faint in the background beneath what looks like an umbrella market day, procession, or memory only half-recalled. Where the earlier pieces in this series glowed with color and ornament, this one strips everything back to gesture and shadow, form barely holding together against the pale ground. Lines cross and cancel each other out, sketch-like, unfinished, as if the scene were being remembered rather than witnessed. Equine Majesty III closes the series in fading light rather than full ceremony dignity here isn’t declared through color, but through what persists even as detail falls away. It suggests that majesty doesn’t need adornment to remain; even reduced to line and shadow, the presence of horse and rider still commands the space they move through.
