This time the figure wears an elaborate ruffled collar, formal and antique, framing the rough wooden construction above it with unexpected dignity. The contrast is striking: raw timber meets fine pleated fabric, old-world formality dressing something still being built. Where the first House of Self asked what shelter we construct to carry a self forward, this second version pushes further suggesting that even a self still under construction can be dressed for the occasion, presented to the world with ceremony. House of Self II reminds us that identity is never finished being built, only ever worn with whatever grace we can manage in the meantime.
