A face emerges half in shadow, half consumed by tangled threads of crimson and orange, its features caught between recognition and disintegration. A playing card the King hangs from its mouth like a secret about to be dropped, or a truth finally spat out. Set against a deep, bruised purple, the whole figure seems to teeter at the edge of something: performance, power, or the mask beginning to slip. There’s a tension here between authority and folly, control and chaos, held together only by the fragile card gripped between the teeth. King Joker unsettles by design daring the viewer to ask who holds the crown when the crown itself is only ever a card, and every king carries a joker somewhere close to the surface.
